You Wang began learning classical guitar at age 11 under influence of his father. Since 1998, he has been studied with renowned professors including Professor Zhi Chen from Central Conservatory of Music and Professor Danny Yeh from Shanghai Conservatory of Music. From 2004 to 2010, You Wang received full- scholarships to study with Maestro Denis Azabagic in the Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University.
Since 2000, You Wang has received first prizes in many major competitions including but not limited to: the 2nd Indiana International Guitar Festival & Competitio n, the Louisville International Guitar Competition, and the ECU Summer Guitar workshop Competition. He has also received top prizes in the Boston International Guitar Competition, the Columbus Guitar Competition and Symposium, the “American Society of Musicians” National Competition for all instruments, the Hong Kong 3rd International Guitar Competition, and the Chinese Young Artist National Competition. In 2013, You Wang won 4th Prize in world’s most prestigious guitar competition “GFA” (Guitar Foundation of America).
You Wang have been invited to various competitions and festivals as an adjudicator and guest performer. In 2011 alone, he was invited to adjudicate the University of East Carolina International Guitar Competition, the Rosario Guitar Festival and Competition, and the 2nd Annual University of Louisville International Guitar Competition. He has also been invited to perform as a guest performer at various festivals/events such as the Parisian Salon Concert Series and the Chicago Society of Guitar. Recently, he was invited to perform in the Sioux City Chamber Music Series with flutist Lisa Schroeder. He has also been featured in various articles in Soundboard magazine. In September 2013, You Wang has been invited by “Famosa Company” to play a concert tour in China, featuring cities: Yichang, Hangzhou, Wuhan and Qingdao.
You Wang is currently on the guitar faculty for University Of Illinois at Chicago (UIC).
